When Walt Disney World opened on October 1st, 1971, it featured the Magic Kingdom and a few hotels.  Among those were Disney's Polynesian Village Resort and Disney's Contemporary Resort.

I absolutely love the original thematic design of the Contemporary Resort.  Inside the Grand Canyon Concourse, there were lucite trees in fall colors and the theme of the 4th floor concourse was Southwest American.  There were plenty of stylized references to the desert, Native Americans, bears, burros, and more.  Today, the only thing which remains of that theme are the enormous tile murals designed by Disney artist Mary Blair.
I tried to use the sunny, orange color scheme of the original Grand Canyon Concourse in this artwork, which depicts monorail orange departing the hotel's main tower for the Magic Kingdom.  It glides silently past Bay Lake Tower, a Disney Vacation Club property before making its graceful curve to the West.

While this artwork wasn't my most photorealistic piece, it does show my interest in moving away from "head on" perspectives as this "impossible shot" is of the resort at an angle.
