Artwork Copyright Disney.

When Disney's California Adventure originally opened, it was panned as an example of cost-cutting design.  It lacked the detail and warmth of its older sister, Disneyland.  As such, it was poorly attended. In October 2007, Disney began reimagining bits and pieces of the park as part of a much larger placemaking project which would transform it into a destination which would serve as the perfect complement to Disneyland Park.

As part of the celebration of the completion of the project, I was asked to create a wallpaper which would show off all the new details and attractions which would quickly become classics.  Cars Land, Monsters Inc., and the revamped Paradise Pier (complete with World of Color nighttime spectacular) were all on the list for representation in this piece.
I refer to this piece as my "fun map", because everything you could think of (aside from restaurants and kiosks, practically everything is there and in stunning detail... right down to the little "popcorn lights" on the Paradise Pier attractions and the neon of Cars Land!

Since the majority of the park's new theme fit closely with the era when art deco reigned, I chose to try to emulate the two-dimensional style of murals from the period.  Strong gradients and crisp lines help to keep all the little, complex details in place.

To date, this piece is the busiest and most complex piece of artwork I have ever created.  Should you decide to download this artwork from Disney, be sure to select the largest size available and then zoom in on your screen to admire all the little details I have placed in it!
